About this Landmark

An ancient Gondwana fortress perched precariously on a monolithic granite boulder. Built in the 11th century by Gond ruler Raja Madan Singh, this military watchtower played a key role during Queen Rani Durgavati’s valiant resistance.

Historical Significance

Capital and watchpost of the Gondwana Garha-Mandla Kingdom. Legend holds that underground secret passages connected Madan Mahal with Garha and Mandla forts.
